JUDGES AT CRUFTS 2024
Judge - Rob Bint
(Dog & Bitch
Championships)
Hi - I have been given the honour of judging the Obedience Championships at Crufts . This is something I have wanted to do since I first went when Crufts was held at Earls Court many many years ago, I believe I have been competing for at least 40 years, my first show being at Newbury racecourse with my spaniel Tammy. I won out of beginners at Stoneleigh by winning beginners' and novice on the same day . I may be a bit older now but it seems like yesterday. My first ticket win was at Cambridge champ under Chris Bloomfield with my dog of a lifetime Beau posh name Wyvos Entertainer I made him into a Champion but his obedience was a small part of what he meant to me.
Dog shows have been a massive part of my life ,it was where I meet my wife thanks to Beau, where my kids had the freedom and adventures with so many friends keeping a watchful eye on them, and I have made so many lifetime friends. One of those friends will be by my side in March.
My team are Jane my wife. Carol Clack .Super Steward Paul Evans and his wife Steph. Sheila and Colin Huntley, Kate Hall, Emma Galbraith and my mate Mark Davies. There is one more unofficial member and that is Michelle Newman who has been invaluable with her help running up to Crufts to make it a day to remember for everyone. A massive thankyou from me. To everyone competing enjoy every second making memories, I know how much blood sweat and tears it takes but the sense of achievement when it comes together overrides this.
Remember dreams can come true

(Inter Regionals -
Obedience)
I wish to thank The Kennel Club for their invitation to judge The Inter-Regional Obedience Competition at Crufts Dog Show 2024. I am honoured and privileged to do so.
I have had dogs around me all my life. The breeds were varied and all these lovely dogs contributed to my interest, being volunteered as dog walker, dog carer, etc. Eventually I took ownership of a rescue GSD and then a rescue yellow Labrador Retriever. Through the local Guide Dog branch, I became acquainted with the lady who ran the local dog club, and she arranged a bus trip to Crufts each year. How could I resist? When I watched the Obedience Championship competition I knew I would like to attempt this dog sport specialty.
From attending the local dog club and then other training classes I made good friends who invited me to train with them and encouraged me to compete. At my first competitive show, I was awarded third place in Beginners with Echo and I was hooked! My friends gave me the chance to become more involved by taking on the duties of scoreboard steward, ring steward, scribe, decoy and then judge at a lower level. By doing so and competing at various dog shows I gained experience and made further friends along the way.
My first Open Show judging appointment was in 1989 at St. Mary's DTC and now I am privileged to be a Championship Class C judge. I have judged various classes in many parts of the UK and have judged in the Isle of Man, Holland and Southern Ireland, awarding their Green Stars.
From a Crufts point of view, I competed in the Inter-Regional competition in 1989 with Echo, and with Cody on numerous occasions. Cody won the Class 'C' competition in 2002. Also I competed in the Championship with Cody and in World Cup competitions with Gabi. I have been a member of the ring party at Crufts on three occasions.
Becca and Haven are my current dogs and I am working Becca in Championship Class C and Haven in Class A.
I am a Kennel Club Accredited Instructor (KCAI (Ob)), an Approved Pet Dog Training Instructor (IABTC), and a Kennel Club Accredited Judges Trainer.
I instructed at the local dog club for over 20 years and was a member of a KC Registered dog club for a few years. I was pleased to become a committee member and to assist with the running of their shows.
My thanks and appreciation to my ring party for all their help with the preparations for the 'big day', their assistance, giving of their time, and for their good company at the practice sessions.
My best wishes to all team members in this year's competition and my congratulations to you all on being selected to represent your region.
Ellen

(KCGCDS Special Pre Beginner Stakes)
Many thanks to the Kennel Club for the invitation to judge the Special Pre-Beginner Obedience Stakes Grand Final and Young Kennel Club Final - it is a real honour to be judging at Crufts.
My own obedience journey started when I was 12, and a family friend had broken her arm and asked if I would take on the training of their Bearded Collie, Benji. I went along to South Beds Dog Training Club and loved it! We competed in club matches as well as a few breed shows. My mum, Joan Johnson, took me to Crufts in 1976. We watched the obedience championships and were both mesmerised and fell in love with border collies.
Fast forward lots of years and the feelings haven't changed! I have learnt so much about dog training from some truly great trainers and have made wonderful friends and lots of happy memories. I've been fortunate to have shared my life with the best dogs - each of which seemed perfect for my life at the time. Jemma (Ob Ch Runfold Dallas of Joem) made all my dreams come true in taking me from Pre-Beginners to Crufts; Jeffrey (Jeffrey of Joem) took me down a peg or two by showing me that I wasn't the great trainer I thought I was (although we did manage a Reserve CC); and Jylly (Joem Jylly) was the perfect all round dog to have when my children were growing up, qualifying for the obedience championships when I was on maternity leave with my first son.
I currently share my life with Josie (Jodame Escapade) who loves her obedience work (a bit too much at times) and has taught me the importance of good handling and footwork. She is wonderful walking companion and spoilt "only child" now that my sons have left home!
I'd like to wish all competitors a wonderful day - enjoy your dogs and enjoy your day. A big thank you to my niece, Karen Fone, who will be stewarding and to my friend, Louise Healey, who will be trying to keep us in order! As I'm judging, my Mum (who is now 93), won't be at Crufts this year but she will be thinking of us all.

(YKC Obedience)
I started taking an interest in training dogs at age of 6 years when attending our local club while mum was a trainer. After competing at various exemption shows and KCJO classes held at open shows I first qualified to compete at Crufts aged 8 years with mum's dog 'Judy'. Qualifying to compete at Crufts at various levels every year until I was over the age limit for juniors.
My first dog was called 'Candy' which was one of Judy's puppies. Candy taught me so much and we enjoyed many years competing in Obedience and all the other activities which, the then, “KCJO”, put on across the country. I was lucky enough to be able to camp over periods of a week in mum's caravan at various venues each year which gave us the chance to meet up with other families and juniors and experience obedience, flyball, agility, showing etc and have fun with our dogs. Various interesting talks were also given by experts on numerous topics.
In 1991 I received a commendation certificate for completing the KCJO project and Diary for my age group and was presented with the Silver Award trophy by The Duke of Edinburgh at Crufts.
Throughout 1995 Candy and I won the 'Rebecca Pointer' trophy for the number of wins and places throughout the year. The presentation was made at Crufts in 1996. Candy won me out of Beginners and Novice in the adult obedience.
Judy's second litter produced a beautiful girl who was destined to be my next dog partner 'Melody'.
All ex-juniors were invited back to Crufts for a special competition in 2003 which I competed in with Melody and Zodiac (my next competing partner). Melody and I went on to win the competition.
Melody took me through 'B' in adult obedience and we competed in 'C' before her retirement.
Zodiac was a special girl who gave her all even though she battled with Addisons. Zodiac and Tally (my first boy) competed in the juniors and adult classes and also, joined in the obedience team demonstrations at Crufts, organised by a fellow junior, Clare.
Glyma and Drayco were next to join our family and we tried our hand at Flyball joining a local team. We competed with our teams in flyball at various competitions and at Discover dogs in London as well as demonstrations at Discover Dogs. At one stage juggling flyball with obedience - Obedience being my preference with flyball losing out.
I now compete in obedience with 'Digit' and my latest youngster 'Ollie'. When I am not competing, I am in great demand from judges as a Steward for Ticket classes and enjoy the weekends and weeks away with the family in our caravan around the shows throughout the year. I am also the show manager and one of the organisers for our Open Obedience show held locally.
I like to thank the Kennel Club for entrusting me to judge the YKC classes. It is an honour and I hope that I am able to put all the competitors at ease and ultimately help them to enjoy their day.

(Obreedience)
I was originally asked by Kathy Hood to be a member of her Obreedience judging party, however when Kathy realised the uncertainty of being able to fulfil her judging appointment I was invited by the Kennel Club to take her place. I have previously stewarded this event at Crufts so now I’m really looking forward to judging it.
I am lucky enough to have members of Kathy’s original team with me, although slightly shuffled. We are all looking forward to our time on the green carpet with the teams who have worked hard to get their chance to “strut their stuff” at Crufts.
I wish all the teams good luck and hope they enjoy their day.
