YKC MEMBERS GIVEN THE CHANCE TO DESIGN THE YKC CRUFTS CATALOGUE COVER

Thursday, September 7, 2017 - by KC Press Release

The Young Kennel Club (YKC) is inviting the talented artists amongst its members to design the front cover for the YKC Crufts catalogue as part of its Artist of the Year competition.

YKC members are being encouraged to get creative and submit their design within the theme ‘head and shoulders above the rest – a dog portrait’. This theme means that the dog/dogs should be the main subject in the design, with either just the head or the entire body of the dog standing, lying or sitting down. The design must be done in A4 portrait, and wording/titles are not needed.

The YKC Crufts catalogue showcases all members who are competing in the YKC ring at Crufts 2018, and will be available at the show. Alongside having their artwork featured on the cover of the catalogue, the overall winner will receive £75, art supplies and a year’s free YKC membership. 2nd place is £50 and art supplies and 3rd place is £30 plus art supplies. The winner will also have their artwork displayed at the YKC stand at the show, which will be seen by thousands of people.

YKC Chairman, Gerald King, said: “We are very excited to be able to offer members the chance to design the front cover of our YKC Crufts catalogue once again. It was very successful last year, with many talented members entering for their chance to showcase their creativity outside the ring. The theme this year should bring out some amazing artistic skills, as well as a clear passion for dogs, so we are really looking forward to seeing the variety within the entries. Good luck to everyone who enters.”

This year’s judging panel will be looking for a striking cover design that is well executed, has an imaginative concept and clearly places the cover within the brief. They will also be making sure the artwork is suitable to be used as a cover for a booklet.

Last year’s YKC Artist of the Year overall and 17-24 category winner was 20 year-old Samantha Webster from Northfield, Birmingham, who won the judges over with her interpretation of the YKC, Crufts and her love of dogs.

YKC members have until Friday 24th November to submit their artwork. Entries need to be A4 in size and a range of materials, including drawing (e.g. pencil, pen) painting and printmaking. The competition is open to all members aged 6-24 years.

Entrants should send their artwork to Young Kennel Club, The Kennel Club, Clarges Street, London, W1J 8AB. All artwork must include a full name, address and age, telephone number and email address on the back. You must also describe why you chose your design. You do not need to add titles or wording to your design. All artwork will be returned after Crufts 2018.
