Vito, a Working Sheepdog, and his owner Ria McGovern from Newton Bromswold, Northamptonshire took home one of the top obedience prizes at Crufts on Saturday 11th March after winning the Obedience Championships dog final.

Ria, who is a retired nurse and now runs and owns a boarding kennel, has been involved in obedience for over 35 years. The pair came first in the final held at the world’s greatest dog show, Crufts, after competing against some of Britain’s best dogs for the coveted title.

All competitors at the championships had made it through to the final from one of the 46 championship shows that hosted qualifying classes for the Crufts Obedience Championships.

Proud owner Ria said: “It feels indescribable, unbelievable, fantastic to have won. I can’t stop smiling - it’s dream come 1.”

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary said: “Congratulations to Vito and Ria for their fantastic success. They clearly worked together as a team and it was wonderful to see how obedient and well trained Vito was.

“Top obedience competitors from all over the world come to showcase their abilities at the world’s biggest and best dog show. You can really see how much the dogs taking part enjoy the activity.”

Crufts took place from 9th-12th March 2017 at the NEC, Birmingham. For more information, please visit www.crufts.org.uk.
